Loves Park Rotary Pickleball Presentation

NIP was invited to speak at the Loves Park Rotary weekly meeting by Shannon Scheffel, the Executive Director of Harlem Community Center. The meeting was held on Tuesday, March 15th at Loves Park City Hall.

The club was kind enough to share a St. Patrick's Day themed meal of corned beef and cabbage. We also indulged in the celebratory cake of the club's 44th anniversary. Member Don Lyon, is the only remaining charter member from that historic night in 1967.

After the appetizing lunch I presented a brief PowerPoint on behalf of NIP that explained the basic equipment and rules of the game. And, no presentation would be complete without an explanation of why it is called Pickleball. I also highlighted the websites for NIP and the USAPA, as well as the NIP social media outlets - Blogger, Facebook, and Twitter.

After the presentation a group of Pickleball volunteers gave a quick demonstration of the sport in the gymnasium. NIP was complimented on the presentation organization by multiple people and it was said that, "it was the best presentation we have had this year". Rotarians were also complimentary and thankful for the live demonstration as it really helped to bring the sport to life.

Thank you to the Loves Park Rotary Club for the opportunity to educate people on this little known sport. Also, a big thank you to Ann Corley, Tommy Chilton, Pat Freed, Todd Kennedy, and Terry Tandy for their time in taping a temporary court and demonstrating the sport.

If you are a member of a club and would like us to give a presentation, please contact me.

Respectfully,
Jennifer Selchow
